Prayers for the Resistance

A daily practice of paying poetic attention to the world, as a way to stay present and open, to keep going in days that often feel disorienting.
A practice of imagining a world, and way of sharing it, based on love, liberation and restorative justice for all of us.

The task I give myself is this: take a picture every day, most often of an ordinary moment.
Use that picture as a jumping off place: gather some words around it in the shape of a prayer.
Offer these prayers, that they might be of use.

all we know, and do not know,
about the edge of things

the dapple and wave
of afternoon light
in the living room

your love of this world
on fire

when you cannot
make sense,
make something.
let the sweet seams
of joined things
sing hush to your fret.

prayer
is wishing
there were words
for how the sun
about to go
makes us love
who we love
even more
than we do
